Updated About me… From August 2010…

Well, my name is still Seth Stohs, and I am still a sports dork. I think there are a lot of people, besides just my brother who think I’m a sports dork. When I started this page, it was a site with my thoughts on several topics, mainly sports, but also TV, movies and more. In the past five years or so, it has turned into nearly a 100% Twins-related blog, and that is just fine.

A ton has changed in the 7+ years since this site started, and mostly for the better. I became a father four years ago. I moved to the Twin Cities, and now I am back in Warroad, MN. But as much as things have changed, SethSpeaks.net has opened up some incredible opportunities.

Original About Me… From May 2003…

My name is Seth Stohs, and I am a sports dork. (Just ask my brother) I can admit it. I have so many thoughts circulating in my head and, well, there’s just not any more room in there, so I need to clear some space. I figured the best way to do that is simply to start up a webpage and make some of my thoughts and opinions known to a world-wide audience.  OK, I realize that this page will probably only be read by friends and a few relatives, but that’s a start.  But, you never know.  Maybe I’ll become famous, and hence, rich, which is something I think I could handle!

Anyway, within this webpage, I hope to write daily (at least week days) my thoughts on what is going on in the world of sports.  Being from Minnesota, of course, my primary focus will be to express my thoughts and opinions on the “local” teams (the Twins, the Timberwolves, the Vikings, the Gophers, and I may even have to join the Wild bandwagon).  But, I will also discuss topics of interest (to me, and hopefully you as well) throughout the world of sports. I will also discuss sports cards, fantasy sports and other sports related topics.

From where did I get this idea?  Well, for almost a year, I’ve been reading articles from The Twins Geek and think they’re always great.  From there, I was directed to the Dickie Thon Twins Fan Forum, and got even more interested in all of the opinions that Twins fans have.  I mean, seeing the same games, everyone sees what happens (or doesn’t happen) a little differently.  We can have different opinions, but have the same overall thoughts at heart (Win Twins!).  From there, I learned of Aaron’s Baseball Blog.  This may be the single greatest website I have ever read.  Each day, Aaron writes his thoughts, but he includes so much data and research that it’s great reading.  I would encourage everyone to bookmark all three of these pages (and mine, thanks!)  With all that in mind, I just thought it would be fun.

My background is not in English, journalism or writing of any kind, it’s actually in Math and Economics. I’ll do my best to be grammatically and phonetically correct in articulating my thoughts.  Also, with my background, you would assume that I’m into the “new” look at baseball stats.  Not necessarily true.  I love reading things by Bill James and others. I think it’s absolutely fascinating how they break down player’s stats so in-depth. However, I think that a lot of baseball and managing a team has to be by sight, and by a gut feeling.

I have always been considered a “jock.”  So, in order to break the stereotype that goes along with that, I will also discuss other topics.  I’d like to show some ‘range’ and voice my opinions on other things, including occasionally politics and news events. However, I certainly want to keep this web site light, so  I will also discuss pop-culture. From TV shows including reality TV (love American Idol, Survivor, The Bachelor, The Amazing Race, Big Brother, and others. Don’t like Married by America, among others), to music, to books and more.

Part of the allure of developing the webpage is to create some interaction with the readers. I would encourage you to e-mail me your thoughts on things I’ve written about.  I don’t claim that all of my opinions are always right.  I understand that, and hence will occasionally include some of the thoughts of others onto the webpage. Also, if you have ideas for something for me to write about, that’d be great.

This site is in its very early stages, so please feel free to give any suggestions you have to improve it.  Thanks for taking the time to read my thoughts. I hope you’ll come back daily and see what has changed. And, don’t forget to tell your friends and others about it!
