Scary Notes
Good Morning everyone!
OK, there is really nothing scary about the notes for today, but, Happy Halloween to those of you who actually consider this day a holiday. Personally, I can't stand it, but that's alright! Today, I'll just post a couple of bullet points before showing you how our NFL "Expert" Panelists did in Week 8!
First of all, congratulations to Jeff Johnson who was the winner of a SethSpeaks.net t-shirt in the SethSpeaks Playoff Fantasy League. If you would like to see who Jeff had on his team, and how he won, and who played great in the playoffs, please click here. My team was alright, but I finished in fourth place. It is always interesting to see who people pick for their teams. With the rule that you could only have three players from any one team, it was really interesting. Johan Santana and Albert Pujols were on most everything. Guys who really came through, like Kenny Rogers, Jeff Suppan and Yadier Molina, were not chosen by any team. Anyway, it was fun, and again, Congratulations to Jeff!
Down in Arizona yesterday, Kevin Slowey started and gave up a run on two hits in three innings. He walked none and struck out three. Matt Moses went 3-5 with his fourth double of the ALF season.
Have you been following the post-baseball career Kirby Puckett story as compiled by a few members of the Tribune's staff. The first installment discussed the glaucoma, fishing and his Hall of Fame induction. The second installment discusses his trial and how Minnesota left him out in the cold. There are two more parts to go, so click here to check them out.
So you're saying there's a chance!!??
The top two matched up again, and again, it was St. Louis that edged Detroit. They played another World Series game? No, the Cardinals won that. What I am talking about is the fact that St. Louis edged out Detroit as America's most dangerous city! I believe that Detroit headed in as the favorite as they were deemed the most dangerous city with a population over 500,000. St. Louis came in as the underdog, having been named the most dangerous in cities between 100,000 and 499,000.
There can't be many of them, but I found a positive article on former Twins reliever JC Romero. You almost have to look, just because you have to see it to believe it. Our friend Al makes some good points though.
DISCUSSION QUESTION of the DAY - At what point in life should Halloween be just another day? I think the last time I went Trick-or-Treating, I was maybe 8 years old? I just never understood the allure, beyond the candy. At what age is it just not cool to get too into Halloween?
Our friend Al also provides some great incite on the Poker Bloggers!
Apparently Harold Reynolds is suing ESPN because of his firing. Ironically (or not) I found the article on the FoxSports.com site.
The Silva countdown continues. The Twins have five days after the World Series to decide if they want to pick him Carlos Silva's $4.25 million option for 2007. The World Series ended on Friday night, so Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday... Wednesday! So, by Wednesday we will know what the Twins decide to do.
Here are the results or our panel's Week 8 picks as well as the updated standings. For the week, mlb.com's Jonathan Mayo, Cory Hepola and myself each went 9-5. Kyle Waldrop has led all the way in the overall standings and maintained his two game lead over Will Young. SBG is coming on strong, and somehow, I am now tied for fourth place. Eleven of the sixteen panelists are within two games of each other with nine weeks to go. Check back Friday for our Week 9 Picks, and if you want more information on this league, click here.
