Vacation Time!
Hey everyone! Well, I was watching that exhilarating Twins game last night in Oakland, and since it was so exciting, I think I fell asleep at about 10:30, somewhere around the fifth inning. I think I'm glad because when I woke up and incoherently went to bed, I saw that the Twins had lost 3-2. I would have probably been too upset had I been able to stay awake and watch it, so there is one positive! Dana Eveland has been pretty solid this year, but still. Now Dan Meyer, another lefty, who was pretty good in a couple of games for the Braves a few years ago in the Tim Hudson trade. He hasn't been good since (and hurt a lot), so that sounds like the type of pitcher that the Twins will have no chance against!
What do I need? What do I need? Hmmm... What? What
did you say?
You think I need a vacation... OK, I agree. I think I'm going to take one.
OK, I'm taking off today for the lake! Going to hang out at the cabin until
Tuesday! That sounds about right!!
Thanks for helping me out with that!
By the way, a couple quick notes before heading out:
I don't know how much time I'll spend online. I hope to at least follow the minor league box scores. If I do post anything, it will be found at talkintwinsbb.wordpress.com, so check that site out from time to time.
If you haven't listened to the podcast yet, be sure to do so. You can find it at www.BlogTalkRadio.com/SethSpeaks. Remember that when the show goes silent at the 17:55 mark, you will need to fast forward to the 29:50 mark and the show takes off from there.
Rochester had the night off last night.
New Britain beat Portland 2-0. Friend of SethSpeaks Jeff Manship started and gave up three hits and two walks in his six shutout innings. He struck out seven. Zach Ward and Ben Julianel combined to throw three perfect innings. Matt Tolbert went 2-5 with his third double. Dustin Martin was 2-4.
Ft. Myers beat Lakeland 6-3. Cole DeVries picked up his tenth win by giving up two runs (1 earned) in five innings. He walked three, gave up three hits and struck out eight. Danny Santiesteban came in and gave up only a solo home run in his two innings. He struck out two. Carlos Gutierrez picked up his first save with two strikeouts in two innings.
Beloit beat Kane County 3-2. Mike McCardell gave up only an unearned run in seven innings. He gave up five hits, walked one and struck out four. In the bottom of the ninth, they were down 2-1. Allen de San Miguel hit an RBI double and it was followed by an RBI single by Yangervis Solarte.
Mark Hamburger threw a scoreless inning for Clinton for his 2nd save with them.
Elizabethton won Game one of their Best of Three series against Pulaski. Brad Tippett started but didn't get out of the first inning. He gave up three hits (an no runs) in 0.2 innings. Steve Blevins struck out two in the final inning. Evan Bigley led the offense. He was 2-5 with a double and a home run. Jeanfred Brito went 2-4. Nick Romero had a double and three RBI.
The GCL Twins season came to an end with a 10-5 loss to the GCL Nationals. Miguel Munoz went just 0.2 innings and gave up six runs (5 earned) on four hits and three walks. He also hit a batter. Mauro Schiavoni gave up one run over the next 4.1 innings. James Tonkin gave up three runs in 2.1 innings. Kelvin Mota got the final two outs. Anderson Hidaldo went 3-5. Aaron Hicks went 2-5 with two RBI. Josmil Pinto went 2-5.
For the GCL Nationals, Steve Lombardozzi (I bet you can guess who his dad is!) went 2-4 with an RBI and a stolen base. On his season, he hit .283/.371/.322. He went 43-152 with four doubles and a triple.
That's it for me for a few days, unless I update at the TalkinTwinsBB site, so be sure to check there, but also be sure to help with the comments below. Game updates, comments, opinions. I'll be back next Wednesday. Remember that the Ft. Myers Miracle start their playoff series on Tuesday night against Dunedin. The E-Twins will continue their playoff run. The other minor league affiliates will wrap up their seasons on Labor Day. That means within the next couple of weeks, I will start my Top 50 Twins Prospect series. That is always fun! Have a great long weekend!
