Malinowski Signs

If you missed Saturday’s blog on the Twins Unsigned Draft Picks, you’ll want to read through it today as it is the
deadline (at 11 p.m. tonight) for teams to sign their 2011 draft picks. As of
now, the Twins still have not signed their three first round picks, although
most of the first round picks have yet to sign. Click here to see my thoughts on
the Twins draftees needing to sign. There was one thing that I was wrong about.
Late last night, the Twins came to terms with their 16th round pick,
Austin Malinowski. It was a surprise
to me because he had told me late last week that he figured he was heading to
the University of Arizona. Malinowski, a LHP from Centennial High School in
Circle Pines, Minnesota, was the 2011 Mr. Baseball in Minnesota. This summer,
he played for the Lino Lakes Centennial American
Legion team that was the runner up in the American Legion state tournament.
Malinowski was named the tournament’s Outstanding Player.

I wrote last week
that I thought Trevor Plouffe should play every day
the rest of the year… then he got sent to Rochester, but then Alexi Casilla went back on the DL and Plouffe
came back up. The North Dakota Twins Fan and the Baseball Outsider both wrote about Plouffe.

The Twins and Cleveland were rained out
yesterday. Kevin Slowey finally made his return to
the Twins and finally made his first Twins start of the year, and yet, Ron Gardenhire finally got him to pitch the role he had been
envisioning for him… Two Innings. Then the rains came.
But Slowey looked alright. The Twins will now start a
series against the Tigers in Detroit.
Here are some minor league highlights from
the weekend:
