Valencia Promoted
to Rochester
Danny Valencia hit .373 in May. He was hitting .343. But then he
went into a Big League slump, and he was hitting just .260. In his last four
games, he is 8-15 and has his batting average up to .284. On the season, he has
28 extra base hits in 218 at bats. And now that he busted out of the slump, according
to a source close to the situation, he has been promoted to AAA Rochester where
he should take over 3B duties on a daily basis. (Certainly there could be other
promotions associated to this one, and I will update as I hear them.)
Valencia is an
excellent combination of baseball player. He can hit for average. He can hit
for power. He can take quality at bats. He has a strong arm and he plays excellent
defense at 3B.
Last month, I
ranked Valencia as my #3 Twins prospect, and said that I hope he puts himself
in position to compete for the starting 3B job when the Twins open up Target
Field next April. With this promotion, he is right on track! Let
me know what you think.
