Sunday Game Notes
Another frustrating game for the Twins and their fans on Sunday. The Twins scored three runs before the
Red Sox even batted, but it wasn’t enough for Carl Pavano.
Jason Kubel singled in Denard
Span, and later Danny Valencia drove in two runs with a solid single up the
middle. Pavano gave up a single run in the 2nd
inning on a groundout. But in the third inning, there were several singled and
four more runs. In fact, the inning should have ended much earlier except Pavano didn’t field his own position and a ball that should
have started a 1-6-3 double play turned into another single. Danny Valencia hit
a home run off of the foul pole above the Green Monster to cut the lead to just
one, but then Pavano gave up two more in the bottom
of the fifth to expand the Red Sox lead. At the end of the day, the Twins lost
9-5. Jason Kubel was 3-4 with two RBI and is now
hitting .351. Danny Valencia was 2-4 with the three RBI. Denard
Span and Trevor Plouffe were each 1-3 with a walk.
The loss makes the Twins 12-20, 9.5 games back of Cleveland in the AL Central.
The
Twins and the Red Sox will match up again on Monday night, this time on ESPN.
Nick Blackburn will take the mound against Josh Beckett who apparently decided
to be good again this year.

it some thought.
