While I was out...
Good morning ya'll! Well, I have been out of town for a few days, and I didn't even have access to a computer. Nothing. I barely even read the papers. I also was asleep before Baseball Tonight came on and on the road too early so I didn't even watch much SportsCenter. So, I thought I would run a real quick While-I-Was-Out column. I am sure it is not complete or even close, but it is something to hopefully remind people that I do write here. But never fear, next week, I will be around and fully intend to return to regular postings. I have a couple ready that I am quite excited about. So, let's get to it...
While I was Out...
Well, first things first, on Monday, I flew down to Florida. I didn't mention that because I didn't want Dianna to know. I wasn't in Ft. Myers though, but instead Ft. Lauderdale and Miami. Has anyone spent time on South Beach? Very, very interesting. It is a great place to people watch because you never really know what you might see!
I did see the homes of celebrities such as Pat Riley, Dwayne Wade, John Salley, Andy Garcia, Ivan Rodriguez, Gloria Estefan and others. And yes, it was a business trip!!
I spent the last couple of days up in Pennsylvania, near Harrisburg. I didn't think of it ahead of time, but that area is full of Eastern League teams. It would have been very cool if the New Britain Rockcats would have been in town.
Yesterday, made the 2+ hour trek to Washington D.C. Saw more impressive things as well as many of the national monuments (from the car). On the way back out of town, I saw the campus of George Washington University. I wonder if Will Young would have been around!?
The Timberwolves season ended. I know. I wasn't really paying attention either, but I accidentally looked at the box score today (had lots of time on the plane). I saw that Bracey Wright scored 19 points. I didn't even know he was called up.
Right away on Monday, the Twins purchased the contract of Ruben Sierra. Did they have to drop someone from the 40 man roster? If so, let me know who.
To add Sierra, Jason Kubel was, as expected, sent down to Rochester. I agree with that move, but I would have preferred that they start him at Rochester if this was their plan. Just another case of the Twins keeping a top prospect down. It's becoming way too prevalent.
To add Kubel to the Rochester roster, Alex Romero was sent back to New Britain. I read that in a paper the other day and it gave me several thoughts. First, I agree with the move. Romero has been squeezed out of some playing time and he is a good hitting prospect and he needs to play, especially because he is so young. On the other hand, it bothers me. Here is why. It is because a prospect of Romero's level was losing playing time to guys like Jason Tyner and Andres Torres. I have no problem with either. They are essentially the same player; no hit, good speed, veterans. But why does the Twins organization have to have have both of them? They have lots of OF.
Now the New Britain outfield can be back to Alex Romero, Denard Span and Doug Deeds. All threw could legitimately be at AAA, but I do like that they are together. However, what happens to Trent Oeltjen. He needs to play and there is no need for him to go back to Ft. Myers. So, what happens?
Oh yeah... American Idol. I heard on Wednesday evening that Ace Young had been eliminated from American Idol I was very happy with this. Ace is a good singer, but he is at the point now where he just is not in the same category as the rest. I was somewhat surprised to hear that the other two in the bottom three were Chris Daughtry and Paris Bennett. I was very happy when I read that Katherine McPhee did well! Again, American Idol Thoughts will return on Wednesday with my thoughts on the final six.
The Twins won Wednesday night's game 12-10 on a two run homer in the bottom of the 10th. I was sleeping when I found out! Literally. My sister sent me a text asking if I had seen it. Somehow that woke me up, so I called her and she told me about it. My first thought was about the Comments that our good friend Nick wrote the other day. However, I saw that Aaron Gleeman took care of it for me. I'm a Cuddyer guy. I know, there aren't many of us!
It makes it even better for me, or other Twins fans, that the Cuddyer home run came off of JC Romero!
Anything else happen in the last few days? If so, please e-mail me, or leave some comments below. I need to get caught up, so help me out!! :) Have a great weekend and be sure to check back next week! Thanks!
