Minor League Update
I thought it would be good to post a minor league update on its own to allow for discussion specific to the Twins minor league system. I certainly invite you to e-mail me or leave questions in the Comments section. Unfortunately, the Breaking News of the weekend, the 50 game suspension of Anthony Swarzak, puts a bit of a damper on everything. But, the rest of the minor leaguers and these teams deserve recognition for the positives that they are doing. So, here are the game updates from tonight along with a few other comments or links where possible.
I would like to ask for your help. If you
find any articles on any of the Twins minor leaguers, hometown article, personal
story articles, etc., please
e-mail me
the links so that I can get them posted for others to see. Thank you!
Honestly, I don't know if I'm going to have much on the Twins game tonight. Uggh! Sidney Ponson gave up about a billion base runners, then Glen Perkins could throw strikes. Matt Guerrier finally had a rough outing and Juan Rincon was all over the place. Joe Mauer was diving all over the home plate area, trying to stop wild pitches, runners from scoring, watching pitches hit batters. It was ugly. The key is remembering that games like this happen. I'm tired of the announcers saying these things don't happen to the Twins, because they do. They happen to every team. So, it isn't worth making too much out of this game.
ROCHESTER REPORT
Friday - Red Wings 6, Pawtucket 2 – Seriously, Scott Baker is way too good for AAA. He just dominates the International League. If only 1.) he could make that transition to the big leagues smoothly and 2.) get the opportunity to stay in the rotation for an extended period, it would be great! Where does all that come from? Well, tonight against the Paw Sox, Baker started and went eight shutout innings. He gave up just two hits, walked none and struck out eight for the Win. Bobby Korecky came in for the 9th and got two outs, but he gave up a hit and walked two. So Mike Venafro came in. He gave up a two run single and walked a guy before getting the final out. The game was 0-0 through seven innings. But in the top of the 8th, Garrett Jones, Jose Morales and Matt Moses each had RBI singles. Then Denard Span hit a bases clearing triple to make the score 6-0. Jones led the offense by going 3-5 with his fourth double. Tommy Watkins went 2-5 with two stolen bases. Moses went 2-4 with a stolen base.
Notes - The Red Wings will be wearing Virginia Tech baseball caps on Monday. Following the game, they will sign them and auction them off, with all the proceeds going to a fund set up by Virginia Tech.
