American Idol Thoughts
They are down to the Final Seven this week, and they each performed a country song with the assistance of Martina McBride (who I guess is a pretty popular country musician). Not an exciting night for me to view the show, but the show was just as good, if not better, than J-Lo week.
So, here are my rankings, with a couple of thoughts on each:
7.) Lakisha Jones - Jesus Take the Wheel - Just based on her pre-performance visit with Martina and the story, I so wanted her to have an incredible performance. It was anything but. I mean, I am not surprised, and this is really where I expected her to finish this week, but that was surprisingly bad.
6.) Sanjaya Malakar - Let's Give 'Em Something to Talk About - One week after I said he was the best performer, it was a bit of a reality check for Sanjaya. Vocally, he was absolutely horrible. Imagine, singing Bonnie Raitt while wearing something that you would expect from Rico Suave!? It was just bad all the way around.
5.) Chris Richardson - Mayberry - I actually thought Chris was alright. The 'nasally' sound actually works well with him, or at least it did with this song. For the most part, he was solid, but there were a lot of really bad notes and such. It was decent, just not compared to the top four.
4.) Phil Stacy - When the Black Top Ends - This performance likely tells us exactly what we need to know about Phil in terms of this competition. Country is his best genre. He sang very well. And he still ranks just fourth this week. He'll be just fine. He just won't win.
3.) Blake Lewis - When the Stars go Blue - Just really good. He is probably my favorite, so I wanted to put him higher. I thought when his voice went high, he was excellent. I thought that he was very controlled. My only concern is if he stays away from the hip-hop, beat box too long, he may not differentiate himself from my Top 2 enough to surpass either.
2.) Jordin Sparks - Broken Wing - It wasn't an exciting, wow performance, but it was vocally incredible. I just love her voice. I almost forgot that she was singing country, which is impressive when listening to a boring song.
1.) Melinda Doolittle - Trouble is a Woman -Definitely a different song than what everyone else sang. That said, she is just so good. I actually turned away from the TV for a bit of the song and couldn't stop thinking that it was something that you could hear on the radio. She's so good, so professional!
So, any thoughts on tonight's show? Am I completely off on anything? Feel free to e-mail me or Comment below.
