American Idol Thoughts

They are down to the Final Eight this week, and they each performed a Latin song with the assistance of Jennifer Lopez (who, of course, has an album coming out that she wants people to buy). I had my suspicions that this would be a great week for Blake Lewis and Jordin Sparks, maybe even Chris Robertson. And then came the performances and a couple of things really surprised me. So, here are my rankings, with a couple of thoughts on each:

8.) Chris Robertson - Smooth - I expected something, and he sang a great song. He just didn't sing it well. The judges liked it, but it was horrific!

7.) Haley Scarnato - Turn the Beat Around - She wasn't as bad as the judges said, but it wasn't good. A fun crowd song, but not one that will win a singing competition.

6.) Lakisha Jones - Conga - This Gloria Estefan (and the Miami Sound Machine) song from the '80s was not something I thought Lakisha would do well. And she didn't.

5.) Phil Stacy - Maria - Wonderful song. Sung pretty well most of the time. Not great. It was solid though.

4.) Melinda Doolittle - Sway - She was fine vocally... obviously. It was just a boring song. I thought the sultry, low part was the best!

3.) Jordin Sparks - Rhythm is Going to Get You - When she was singing, I easily said she was the best of the night. She is so wonderful and will be a star!

2.) Blake Lewis - I Need to Know - And then I heard Blake sing this wonderful song and it was my #1 choice. I loved what he did with the chorus, making it his own and harmonizing very well.

1.) Sanjaya Malakar - Bessame (?) - I don't know the name of the song, but this was the shocking performance of the season for me. It was nearly flawless, vocally too. He performed well. He was actually very good. And the facial hair actually added something. I can't  believe this myself!

So, any thoughts? Am I completely off on anything? Feel free to e-mail me or Comment below.
