Draft One Done, Two to Come
Just finished my first fantasy draft of the day, and the second one starts in 20 minutes. Thought I'd stop by with a few quick thoughts and how my draft went. First of all, it was a 14 team draft, weekly points league, and I had the 9th pick. Here's how it went:
st Round - Matt Holliday, OF, Rockies
nd Round - Justin Verlander, P, Tigers
rd Round - Robinson Cano, 2B, Yankees
th Round - Justin Morneau, 1B, Twins
th Round - Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Nationals
th Round - Jeff Francoeur, OF, Braves
th Round - Philip Hughes, P, Yankees
th Round - Yovani Gallardo, P, Brewers
th Round - Alex Gordon, 3B, Royals
th Round - Matt Kemp, OF, Dodgers
th Round - Howie Kendrick, 2B, Angels
th Round - Stephen Drew, SS, Diamondbacks
th Round - Josh Fields, 3B/OF, White Sox
th Round - Dustin McGowan, P, Blue Jays
th Round - Yunel Escobar, IF, Braves
th Round - Zack Greinke, P, Royals
th Round - Ubaldo Jimenez, P, Rockies
th Round - Kenji Johjima, C, Mariners
th Round - Aaron Cook, P, Rockies
th Round - Franklin Morales, P, Rockies
st Round - Mark Teahen, OF, Royals
nd Round - Paul Byrd, P, Indians
rd Round - Johnny Cueto, P, Reds
th Round - Carlos Gomez, OF, Twins
So, just two Twins... but what are the odds of someone having three Rockies pitchers on a fantasy league roster? It's funny how you end up going with what you know. In past years, I have had Verlander, Gallardo, Gordon, Teahen and Byrd. Last year, it was Jimenez and Morales that helped me win in the playoffs. I'm not saying this is a great team. I had a couple of picks that I was immediately not too happy with. Hopefully this next draft, which now starts in nine minutes, goes much better!! I have the #2 pick!
By the way, during the draft, I watched the Twins... Carlos Gomez is an incredible athlete and as soon as he figures a couple of little things out, he is going to be an incredible baseball player!
